Shoreline Education for Awareness
n/a Phone: 541 347-3683
"Shoreline Education for Awareness [SEA Inc.] is a local non-profit, formed in Bandon in 1990. SEA's mission is to provide education about the shoreline to increase people's awareness of the wildlife that lives there and its habitat. Every winter, SEA has a series of seminars designed to prepare Docents to provide this education. The seminars are taught by professionals, including Dr. Jan Hodder of Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, Dr. Steve Rumrill of the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve and Sharon Morse of the Bureau of Land Management. The seminars are also open to the public on a space available basis. On Spring and Summer weekends, SEA Docents are often on the bluff at Coquille Point in Bandon and at the new viewing platform overlooking Shell Island and Simpson Reef in Shore Acres State Park. When on duty, they have spotting scopes and brochures and are able to answer most questions about the wildlife on view. SEA also assists visitors who want an intertidal experience or to do bird watching at Bandon Marsh on a "Docent Available" basis. There is no fixed fee, but donations are accepted and a tax exempt EIN will be provided if needed."
